June 19th, 2014

Though a lot of Hungarians move abroad to try their luck, others find Hungary one of the most livable countries, and have many reasons to stay. They like the pleasant climate, the education opportunities and Lake Balaton.

Economic news site Portfolio.hu made a poll about the reasons why Hungarians like to live in their country. The recent results show only 9 percent answered they don’t. The rest of them mentioned the pleasurable climate or the abundance of historical monuments as reasons to stay. The country’s geographical position is ideal: unlike many other countries, Hungary is not threatened by earthquakes or hurricanes. There are no extreme weather conditions either: summer is not as hot as in Spain, and winter is not as cold as in Sweden.

Green Areas and Baths
Hungary is one of those countries that are less threatened by the results of the climate change. According to the qualification made by Standard & Poor’s the possible results, such as revolutions, wars and severe economic consequences are not likely to be detected here. On the list made according to the above factors Hungary got the honorable 6th place. The locals also like the green areas and the colorful environment, and they are happy that dangerous animals, like venomous snakes or spiders are not native here. The respondents also mentioned the abundance of baths and swimming opportunities as an advantage. Hungary is rich in spas and natural waters: Hévíz, Zalakaros and of course Lake Balaton are very popular.

Historical Monuments and Museums
Culture enthusiasts also like to live here, thanks to the high number of historical monuments and museums. There’s always a place and time to take a nice walk in the cities; they are not as crowded as those in e. g. Japan. Many of the respondents think Hungarians live better than others countries’ citizens, and they are satisfied with the education opportunities and the veneration of human rights. International Living magazine made a list of the most livable countries: in 2009 and 2010 Hungary got to the top. Last time it got the 20th place among 197 countries, overtaking e. g. the UK and Sweden.
