Foreign Investors Are More Interested in Hungarian Property

Foreign investors are more likely to buy Hungarian property: last year they bought more real estate than in 2011 and 2012. In 2013 1267 transactions were realized; the most investors came from Russia. Budapest properties and amongst them apartments and houses were the most popular, but the investors also bought farms in Hungary.

Foreign investors are more and more interested in Hungary: compared to 2011’s 1069 and 2012’s 1110 in 2013 they bought 1267 Hungarian properties. In 2011 1120, in 2012 1186 and in last year 1365 investors bought real estate in the country; 510 of them were Russian, 165 were Chinese and 109 were Ukrainian.

Budapest Properties Are the Most Popular

According to the data of the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice foreign investors prefer Budapest properties: they were more popular than those of the country. 50.9 percent of the Hungarian properties were sold in the capital. Amongst the others those in Győr-Moson-Sopron and Zala counties were the most popular. Investors were interested in apartments, houses, but in lands, weekend houses and farms as well. In 2013 77 percent of properties bought by foreign investors were apartments and houses, 10.2 percent were lands, 2.5 percent were weekend houses and 0.5 percent were farms.


Foreign Entrepreneurs Like to Open their Businesses in Hungary

Beside the above foreign investors are more likely to open their businesses in Hungary as well. According to the 2014 data of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DUIHK) published in April foreign investors’ opinion about Hungarian economy and business has become better recently. 194 company’s opinion was asked in the study; 60 percent of them were German. Last year 73 percent of the companies said they would invest in Hungary again; this year this rate was 75 percent, and 29 percent of them would like to increase the number of their Hungarian employees.
